Norway, officialy the ´Kingdom of Norway´, is a country in northern Europe, which is part of the Scandinavian region and peninsula. Additionaly, it ocuppies Jan Mayen Island and the Svalbard Archipelago. It has a total area of 385,252 square kilometers and a population of 4.8 million people, making it one of the most sparsely populated countries in Europe. The majority of the country borders with Sweden in the east and the Norwegian Sea in the west, but it also shares its borders with Finland and Russia in the north part of the Scandinavian Peninsula.
The capital city of Norway is Oslo, apart from being the largest and most populous city in the country. Nevertheless, it is the pre-last smallest Scandinavian capital city, after Reykjavik, Iceland. Furthermore, Oslo is the hub of the Nobel Peace Price, while the rest of them are given in Stockholm, Sweden. As it is easy to understand, the official language of Norway is Norwegian, although other regional ones such as Sami and Kven are recognized as well. Immigrants from Europe and Scandinavian countries reside in Norway, and thus, 11.4% of the country's population is NOT Norwegian, while the other 88.6% includes pure Norwegians and local tribes in the north of the country.
Norway is a democratic country, but it also preserves its Royal Family and king. Therefore, the type of government in Norway is a Constitutional Monarchy and a Parliamentary Democracy as well. At the moment, Norway is under the law of King Harald V, Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and President Dag Terje Andersen. The currency is the Norwegian Krone.
Norway is at the top of most human-development, peace or economic situation lists. In fact, it is the second of the world in Grose Economic Product, after Luxembourg; having an industry based on oil, natural gas, hydroelectric power, forests and minerals. Additionaly, it is the second cleanest country in the world and has a high level of education. It was also rated as the most peacefull country in the world, in 2007.
